Join Us!

HBERG members
We are accepting application for new HBERG members, but there are a few minimum requirements:
  • At least a 1-year commitment, preferably 2.
  • Contribute a minimum of 10 hours per week to HBERG projects.
  • Attend weekly HBERG meetings, which are Fridays 9-noon, except holidays and other school cancellations.
  • Give a poster or oral presentation regarding HBERG research at the Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference or a professional conference at least once per year.
There are several benefits to membership. You can receive course credit in Undergraduate Research (but only if you sign up for it—talk to Dr. Lynn about this in a timely fashion if you’d like credit). You will receive broad exposure to all phases of research. You will be better prepared for graduate school and a more appealing candidate for admissions and funding. And you will learn whether or not research is for you. There are also costs. It takes times. It takes attention to detail. It can be boring. Dr. Lynn will get on your nerves.

There are also benefits and costs to taking students on as research assistants. You may contribute a lot to the research design and help us in ways that we would never have known if you had not happened along. On the other hand, if you commit to doing things that you fail to do, you can cause us a lot of problems. Therefore, we have a screening process. Sending an email request to Dr. Lynn is not a substitution for filling out this form. If you’re interested in joining HBERG, fill out the form. Lesson one: People who don’t follow instructions lack attention to detail and find research difficult. We also find it difficult to collaborate with such people. Fill out the form.

Upon filling out the form, Dr. Lynn or another lab member will contact you for a brief interview. If you don’t hear back from someone within a few weeks, please email Dr. Lynn a friendly reminder.
